Josh

Josh Sauer has been making music for just about as long as he can remember. Raised by two singers, he grew up harmonizing in the car to everything from James Taylor and CSNY to Safam, started singing in Jewish choirs as a kid, and never really stopped.

Josh joined Six13 in 2013 and is a member of the group’s leadership team, singing baritone, second tenor, and vocal percussion, often while bringing a little more movement to the stage than absolutely necessary. Over the years, he has performed around the world, sung at the White House for President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, and appeared with Rak Shalom, several Zamir Foundation ensembles, and the Tugboat Heroes. He also serves as a part-time chazzan at Temple Emanu-El in Providence, Rhode Island.

For Josh, Jewish music is a way to connect across communities, traditions, and backgrounds. It is a universal language that can be creative, spiritual, joyful, and completely present. He believes in preparing deeply enough to perform freely, keeping the craft fresh and personal, and making sure the people onstage and in the audience can feel the fun.

Outside of music, Josh leads his family’s business and brings that same spirit of leadership, collaboration, and energy to the teams he works with. He lives in New Jersey with his wife, Dena, and daughter, Skylar, and loves golf, hiking, and quality time with family.

Fair warning: Josh has been known to turn almost any available surface into a drum, break into harmony without invitation, and bring approximately 30% more energy to a room than strictly necessary.
